Identity of boy found dead in Howland confirmed

HOWLAND, Maine (WMTW) - The name of the little boy found dead in the Penobscot County town of Howland this weekend has been confirmed by officials with knowledge of the case.

The state Medical Examiner’s Office says an autopsy was performed Monday on the remains of 3-year-old Justin Jenkins Jr.

No findings have been publicly released.

We’re told, however, information on the autopsy was shared with Maine State Police and the state Attorney General’s Office.

The State Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating the death, in accordance with policy for any death of a child three or younger.

The agency says on Saturday state police were notified by the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office about the death of a 3-year-old boy from Howland.

No further details were available Monday.
